Privacy Policy
Last updated: 28 October 2026
- We use your photos, music and the faces in your photos only to make your slideshow.
- Face analysis runs on our own server. Face data is never sent to an outside service.
- With Google Photos, we only get read-only access to the photos you pick in Google's own window.
- Your whole project is deleted automatically 14 days after you last open it. We keep no backups.
- We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't use your photos to train AI.
1. Who we are
Memoreel (memoreel.video and app.memoreel.video) is run by VideoSparks, Israel ("we", "us"). We are responsible for the personal data described here. Questions, requests and complaints: [email protected].
Memoreel is in beta. For now, people sign in with an access code we give them.
2. What we collect and why
Photos you add
Photos you upload, or pick from Google Photos, are stored on our server so we can make your slideshow. We keep the original files, including the information cameras store inside them (such as the date taken, the camera model and, if your phone saved it, the location). We use the date to put photos in order. We don't use the location. We also make smaller copies of each photo to show in the app.
Faces in your photos (biometric data)
To build a good slideshow, Memoreel finds the faces in your photos and works out which faces belong to the same person, so you can choose who the show is about and so photos can be ordered as that person grows up. For each face we create:
- a small cropped picture of the face, shown to you in the app;
- a numerical "face signature" used only to group faces of the same person within your project;
- estimates of whether the person is smiling, whether their eyes are open and which way the head is turned, used to pick the best photos.
All of this runs on our own server with software we host ourselves. Face data is never sent to an outside service. We don't try to find out who anyone is by name, we don't compare faces between different users' projects, and we don't use face data for anything other than your slideshow. Face data is deleted together with your project (see section 5).
Photos often show other people, including children. Please only add photos you have the right to use, and of people who would be comfortable with them being used in your slideshow.
Music you add
Songs you upload are stored with your project and analysed (beats, loud and quiet parts) so the cuts match the music. The song analysis is a set of numbers, kept in a cache for up to 30 days so the same song doesn't have to be analysed again.
Your project and your video
We store the choices you make (who the show is about, the look, the order, your edits) and the finished video you export, so you can come back and download or change it.
Feedback and error reports
If you send us a note with the feedback box, we receive what you write, your name if you enter it, and a screenshot of the page if you leave that option ticked. With each note, and on its own when something goes wrong in the app, the page also sends technical details: which step of the app you were on, your screen and window size, your browser type, recent error messages and a short list of your most recent actions in the app. We use this only to fix problems and improve Memoreel, and delete it within 12 months.
Technical information
Like every website, our server and our network provider (Cloudflare) process your IP address and browser details to deliver the pages. Our server keeps a technical log of requests (time, page and result) for troubleshooting; old log entries are removed automatically. We keep IP addresses in memory for a short time to block repeated wrong access codes and floods of error reports.
3. Google Photos
If you choose "Import from Google Photos", Google asks for your permission to give Memoreel
read-only access to photos you select (the Google Photos Picker,
scope photospicker.mediaitems.readonly). Then:
- You pick photos in Google's own window. We receive only the photos you picked, never the rest of your library, your albums or your account details.
- We download the picked photos to your project. From then on they are treated exactly like uploaded photos, and deleted with your project.
- The access Google gives us is short-lived (about an hour). We hold it only in the server's memory during the import, never save it, and close the picking session when the import ends. We cannot see or change anything in your Google account afterwards. You can also remove Memoreel's access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- We never change, delete or upload anything in your Google Photos.
Memoreel's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In particular, photos from Google Photos are used only to make the slideshow you asked for. They are not sold, not used for advertising, not used to develop, improve or train general AI or machine-learning models, and not transferred to anyone except as needed to run Memoreel (see section 4), for security, or to comply with the law.
4. Who else handles your data
We don't sell or rent your data, and we don't share it with advertisers. We use a few providers to run the service, who process data only on our behalf:
- Vultr: hosts our server, in New Jersey, USA. Your photos, music, face data and videos are stored there.
- Cloudflare: carries traffic between your browser and our server, protects it from attacks, and forwards email sent to [email protected].
- Google: only if you use the Google Photos import. The app page loads Google's sign-in script, and Google's own privacy policy applies to your Google account.
Nobody at Memoreel looks at your photos unless you ask us to (for example when you send feedback about your project or share your project link with us for help), or if it is needed for security or required by law. We may disclose data if the law requires it.
Because our server is in the USA, your data is transferred there from Israel, Europe and elsewhere. We protect it as described in this policy.
5. How long we keep it
- Projects (photos, music, face data, edits and videos): deleted automatically 14 days after you last opened or changed the project. If our disk runs low, the projects that have gone unused the longest may be deleted earlier. We keep no backups, so deleted projects cannot be restored. Download your video before then.
- Song analysis cache: up to 30 days.
- Feedback and error reports: up to 12 months.
- Want your project deleted sooner? Email us and we will delete it.
6. Cookies
We use only the cookies the app needs to work, and no advertising or analytics cookies:
- a sign-in cookie that remembers your access code (30 days);
- a project cookie that lets your browser, and only your browser, open your project (up to 1 year, though the project itself is deleted as described above). A "share link" from the app gives the same access to whoever you send it to.
7. Security
All traffic is encrypted (HTTPS). Each project can only be opened with its own private key. The app can only be reached through Cloudflare's encrypted tunnel, our server's firewall blocks everything else except key-only administrator access, and security updates install automatically. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your data, we will inform the authorities and, where we can reach them, the people affected, as the law requires.
8. Your rights
Under Israel's Protection of Privacy Law (including Amendment 13) and, where it applies, the EU and UK GDPR, you can ask us to:
- tell you what data we hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct it;
- delete it;
- stop or limit using it, or object to how we use it;
- give it to you in a usable format.
Where we rely on your consent (for example for face analysis), you can withdraw it at any time by not using the feature and asking us to delete your project. Email [email protected]; we will reply within 30 days. You can also complain to the Israeli Privacy Protection Authority, or to the data protection authority where you live.
Legal bases (GDPR): we process your photos and music to provide the service you asked for; face data on the basis of your explicit consent; feedback, error reports and technical logs on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping Memoreel working and secure.
9. Children
Memoreel is meant for adults (18 or older). Slideshows often include photos of children; the adult making the project is responsible for having the right to use them. We don't knowingly collect data from children who use the app themselves. If you think a child has used Memoreel, contact us and we will delete the project.
10. Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your data, we will tell you in the app before it applies.
